How To Sell Print On Demand on Amazon

  • November 25, 2024

hey my name is Mike and in this video I'll be showing you how to leverage Amazon's billions of monthly viewers to make more money for your business and we're going to be doing this using a new integration that allows us to use gelato for print on demand on Amazon so rather than just running a regular print on demand shop and hoping you can advertise and get customers which is a great route we now have the ability to also connect that store over to Amazon to access those billions of monthly viewers who are going on Amazon trying to buy things and you can put your product in front of them while still having all of the benefits of print on demand meaning you don't have the risk of having a lot of inventory you don't need to have space for all of your inventory you can iterate on your designs very very quickly try a lot of things find what works and really double down on that so this is kind of a win-win from the design aspect of being able to test a lot of things but also the marketing aspect of being able to leverage Amazon search algorithm as well to access an even larger audience there so with that being said there's a lot to cover in this video this is a beginner tutorial I'm going to show you how to set this up step by step and the good news is it's really not hard to do there are not a ton of steps to do this but it's important that you do it in the correct order which is why I decided to make this video and the best thing is we don't have courses we don't want your money there's no upsells at the end of this video everything that you need to know to do this is going to be included in this video so there are really four main steps to getting this listed on Amazon first we need an Amazon seller account Amazon Seller Central so we'll set that up Amazon's very particular about how you set that up so it's it's important that we do that in the correct way number two we need a supplier to actually do the print on demand there are a lot of suppliers out there I made comparison videos the one we're going to use in this video is called gelato uh you know a big selection a lot of great tools you can use a lot of personalization and different things I'll show you later on the video to make them a very good candidate here so once you have your store step three is going to be to connect them and again we have to do this in a very particular way so you don't end up running into problems with Amazon and then the fourth item to do is to make your products over on gelato and once you make them they'll automatically sync with your Amazon store and everything else is pretty much handled automatically when a customer places an order it'll go over to gelato it can go into production uh you know the payment works out like that you'll get paid gelato gets paid and then the consumer will actually get it shipped out directly from gelato so again the benefit of print on demand here is that you don't have to do any of that you're not doing the printing you're not holding inventory you're not doing shipping instead you can really focus your efforts on designing new products Design coming up with new designs that you think are going to be more relevant more interesting overall more purchasable by the end consumer and also focus more on the marketing aspect as well if you wanted to say link this to a Shopify store as well or or sell on other outlets besides just Amazon so those are the four steps we're going to start off by setting up the Amazon Seller Central account this is very very important that you set it up in the right way I'll have a link in the description if you wanted to go there you could just Google Amazon sell Central uh it'll bring you to a page that looks something like this I'm going to start off by clicking create your Amazon account then I'll type in my name my email and I'll make a password then we can click on next we'll enter the onetime password that was sent to our email and that'll bring you to this page right here we're going to click on get started the big kind of bluish button lower on the screen we can create our business so we're going to say we're in the United States we can save and continue what type of business do you have and so this is going to depend on your own situation do you have an LLC do you have are you just an individual I'm just going to say I'm just an IND individual for this video are you a government-owned business whatever it might be uh select the one that best applies to you and click on continue now I think most people are probably going to be individuals or maybe llc's who are watching this video so you'll say save and continue and and Amazon's very kind of strict about this stuff so you will need to really verify your identity uh with like recent bank statements valid government ID like anything that you have that can you know approve who you are the faster it's going to be that this gets approved now and this is something that could take a day or two to actually get this approved D um so I'm going to say agree and continue I'm going to upload those documents so I can enter my personal information country of birth uh country of citizenship all the information that Amazon's requesting and then like I said they're going to ask for your bank account information credit card information just kind of verifying your identity making sure that you are a legitimate business or a legitimate individual not just some bot trying to scam people on Amazon and then we have to enter our credit card information Amazon does have a $39.99 Professional Service subscription fee so I'll enter that information and go to the next page and here's where you can start to actually enter our store details so I'm just going to call it uh sand trellsky shops uh we'll have um we don't have a UPC and just kind of Select no on these things um unless they apply to you so we don't own a brand so we're going to say no brand right now then we can say next and here we can upload again driver's license or passport and of course uh like bank statement or like water bill or whatever something that proves who you actually are and then of course they want another layer you're going to have to take a photo of your face using your phone just to kind of match your ID they're kind ofan trying to verify that we'll say next and then we're almost through this there's really not a whole lot more here and then like I said it may take a couple hours up to a couple days to get that actually approved you will get an email saying congratulations you've been approved and you can come back to a page that looks something like this now from here we can go and click on where we are registering the business on the right so United States I'm going to click on United States down there and by the way this is you really pretty much have to do this in the US at least at the time of filming right now uh the gelato integration works in the US as the first place they have it set up so we're going to sign in Amazon wants us to set up two Factor authentication it's always a good idea to do that for most of your accounts anyway just to kind of secure them a little bit better so uh it's just going to be sending me a text message I can input my onetime password and then I can sign in so now that we have the account set up there are a couple kind of housekeeping items you might notice if you scroll down to actions uh anything that's readed here take care of that so adding tax information is one thing that I have to do uh deposit method typically is going to be the same credit card you used to pay for your Amazon Professional Services subscription and they have a new seller guide up at the top now we don't actually have to do any of that right now instead what we do need is a global trade item number or gtin exemption and the way we're going to do that is from your Amazon Seller Central account click on the top left little hamburger icon there go to catalog and go to add products and then from there we can go over to blank form you'll see blank form right here we can click on start and we can just go in say the first item name so before we even really have a design you can kind of just make one up whatever you think would uh be similar to what you're probably going to make so for me I know that I probably want to make like t-shirts uh graphic t-shirts and maybe they'll say something related to like some kind of joke or something funny um like like like Sunday filet is kind of something I've been I've been kind of I made a design in the past that was like that so we'll go with that one for this video so I'll say item name Amazon will kind of identify the product type they'll suggest shirt so I could say yes I can confirm that and then once you confirm that you can click on next on the bottom right or actually you don't even have to click next it'll just automatically bring you to the next page and for product identity we can then go and you know update the name if we don't want if we don't like that name we can add variations but really what we want to do is Select brand name and external product ID we need to make sure that those are both selected so that we do not have a brand name say no brand name and we do not have a product ID so once you have those again you can change variations if you want we don't have to worry about that yet we don't have the design we don't even have the specific product so don't worry about that we are just setting up the exemption right now uh so now we can click on next and if you need an exemption it will have you apply right near right here you can see UPC exemption approved so our exemption has already been approved which means we are ready to go on to the next step all I'm going to do now just to make sure that everything works out here I'll say acknowledge and then on the very bottom I'm just going to save this as a draft don't worry about the product description the bullet points or anything else right now we're just going to leave this on standby we have our exemption that's what we are looking for right now and we have our Amazon Seller Central account set up that is very important we have some you know pretty solid First Steps here now let's go over to a new tab so in a new tab you can either copy and paste the link from the top of the description or you can type in sell sandal media.com gelato this is an affiliate link it helps to support the channel and keep information like this free but if you're not comfortable that you could also Google it and find your own way to get here but we do have a a 50% off offer for your first purchase so it does kind of help you uh to also help the channel so I'm going to say get offer and uh you know the first purchase you make if it's like a sample for yourself or if it's just like an order that somebody else places you will be getting half off for that so we are going to now create an account you could do this with Google or Facebook or apple I usually like to just sign up with email I don't know maybe it's an old school way of doing things but that's how I prefer to do it I'll type in my name I'll type in my email and make sure we accept the terms of service and add a password so once you click create account you'll have to verify your email and when you click the link in your email that says verify uh that should bring you to a page that looks something like this and we can start to kind of go through these these kind of this setup process here it doesn't really matter what you click so I'll just say I'm going to uh you know I want to grow my business uh we could say I am a seasoned e-commerce seller and what platform are we going to sell on if you look at more options there are a ton that you can set up with gelato and the good thing is once you have your design and your product made it's very easy to kind of Link these different stores together and uh you know work everything out of one Central Hub that being gelato so I've made videos on Shopify we'll talk about that a little bit later on the video but Amazon is as you can see a you know a pretty top listing that is relatively new for gelato as well so I'm very happy to see that integration now existing so we'll click on that now wants to know the link to your store I'm just going to click on skip right here and we can choose what we're going to do again you can also it doesn't really matter all of this is just kind of a setup process to change your dashboard so I'm going to say clothing and uh currently we're not selling other products you learned about this from from influencer I guess say Sandell sandal media finish and finally that brings us to our dashboard kind of a little onboarding there I wish we could skip a lot of that um but it does help you know for new people to kind of customize what your dashboard is actually going to be and hopefully can help you kind of stay on track here and find the success you're looking for so quick crash course on how gelato dashboard is laid out so on the left side we have home that's going to be kind of like new offers uh different like tips or tricks that they're recommending some best sellers this will change over time below that we have the product catalog and you can see all the different categories of products so gelato has a lot of clothing obviously t-shirts hoodies different things like that but many people don't think about this but there are also a lot of other categories like wall art I know a lot of people do very well with wall art and that's it kind of makes sense for print on demand it's a good way to have that printed down here we also have of course like hats and phone cases and mugs and and other kind of accessories that you can get printed uh so if you're trying to sell like you know comical mugs that could be something something you're able to set up very easily here for this video we're probably going to go with t-shirts just cuz it's easiest to design on and uh I think it's a pretty common example that may be more relatable to more viewers below that we have orders uh you'll see orders as they're being fulfilled right here it'll kind of when orders come in you'll see they'll show up they'll be pending uh they'll be on hold maybe if something doesn't go right with the payment method they'll be in production and you can see when they're printed shipped and actually delivered to the end consumer so it's kind of a good way to see you know what's going on keep tabs on things I recommend checking out the orders every now and then as you start to grow your business down here we have stores so we should be connecting to Amazon uh we will be clicking on that in just a second but then below that uh we have some other really cool kind of gelato specific things personalization studio is a great way to have uh like a semi designed product that the end consumer can add the finishing touch on whether that is their name the date of their anniversary like a photo of them and their friends so if you have an idea and let's see some of the examples they show right here are usually pretty good ones um so maybe if you want to have maybe if you want to have like this right here like a mug with somebody's dog and then they can add the name of their dog on there kind of a nice little gift uh that could be like a stocking stuffer that somebody could very easily purchase through you below that we have templates not a whole lot to talk about there branded packaging we'll talk about that later in the video If you decide to upgrade to gelato plus which are plenty of benefits to doing that also like mock-ups are pretty good there as well once we start to grow the store more you we'll see a lot of analytics the orders uh the different countries the production like I said earlier this is almost entirely going to be in the US then of course we have mockup Studio billing and some other developer things down there we'll get to all of those later on the video but that's a crash course on kind of the layout of this right here so the first thing we want to do is go to stores click on Amazon click on North America and we are going to link that over to our Amazon account as long as you're doing this in the same browser like one tab next to another as I have it should automatically be signed into to your Amazon Central or Amazon Seller Central you can double check on the top that the name of your shop is showing up right there make sure it also says United States uh you want to make sure you're connecting it to the right one so we can say yes that's okay and confirm and that's going to authorize gelato to connect to your Amazon seller account so then that'll bring you back to gelato and you'll say we have to request a GTI gtin exemption on Amazon we already did that earlier so I should say complete setup we'll say complete setup and we should be good to go there all right so that should show you the page that looks just like this if it doesn't which in the past sometimes I've done this and it just brings me back to looking like this like you don't see the Amazon thing on the top just click on Amazon again go through it one more time make sure you refresh it it may take a minute for this to show up you should see on the very top stores the name of your store right there or kind of like a you know a bunch of characters that are your Amazon store and then add product we will be adding product in a minute but just to make sure nobody like orders the product by accident as soon as we put it out and and shipping gets messed up it's important to set up the shipping first and then we can go and start adding our products so over on Amazon Seller Central so let's go back to where we were so if you left off here and we said save draft we can then say back to drafts and that'll bring us back to a page that looks like this now no matter where you are if you just click on Amazon Seller Central on the very top it'll bring you back to the homepage right here your dashboard and from here we're going to click on the gear icon in the top right go to shipping settings then go to General shipping settings and from here you can see what the current Amazon shipping settings that by default they are going to be assigning to us what these look like uh so you can see the general fulfillment settings the cut off time for orders uh for different shipping default handling time one day um different things like that so we want to actually make our own shipping template we don't want to be using Amazon just in case you know they might have like you know premium one or two day shipping gelato doesn't offer that it's print on demand so Printing and getting it there the same day is pretty much impossible so instead we're going to click on shipping templates and we can click on create new shipping template we're going to say create a new one we can say okay we can select domestic Warehouse address say next it doesn't give us an option here we're just going to leave it as uh self fulfillment nonprime shipping settings so we'll say next and now depending on what you're selling you can select the shipping service that will be used to fulfill it uh so I'll just select this one here and say next so we can just choose delivery region we'll say all of them we'll say next we we can also select a premium service if somebody wants that say next and we can say confirm all right so once you get to this page right here we can choose a name on the top I'm going to call this gelato t-shirt D usa1 something pretty specific you want to make sure that you have per item or per weight based right there and if you scroll down you want to make sure you toggle each of these to item and not per weight and then we can change this later in gelato but we really want to make sure that we have a per order fee plus a per item fee because the first product they order is going to be kind of a little bit more expensive than adding more items if they add like you know three or four the same shirt obviously it's going to be a little bit cheaper to ship that versus in four separate orders to four separate people so we can manage that a little bit later on in the video we're going to choose numbers for now we can always come back to this and change it but at the top you want to make sure we toggle this off because if you scroll down right now you'll see we do have two-day shipping or two-day delivery enabled we don't want that that's like an Amazon Prime thing obviously uh and again gelato doesn't offer that so uh we're going to go up here and disable the SSA shipping settings so we'll say confirm and then as we can see that should now be able we should now be able to go down and deselect two-day shipping so we'll deselect no more 2-day shipping and instead we just have standard shipping free economy if you want that I'm going to disable that no free economy just standard shipping and expedited shipping and again this is something that you can customize uh based on whatever products you're selling looking at gelato uh what the shipping recommendations are from from gelato if you go on their own page there so so I'm going to say for standard shipping we'll say 5 to 8 days and we can have our price maybe it's going to be like $357 for the first order and again this is per item down here so every extra item is like $123 don't copy these numbers exactly again we'll talk about this uh later on in the video once we choose the items the specific things we're actually shipping uh but just for now so we have something in here I'm going to set this uh just like that so if you're going a little further maybe it's like $4.99 okay we'll leave those numbers there and same thing down here as well so once we have that we can click on Save and we will have our shipping profile set up so we now have our shipping profile there that's good and we want this to be our default so if we click on the drop down here we could save as the default template we'll say okay and this is now our main template for any products we list on here which is good now going back to gelato now we can actually start making our products to do that if you're not on this page just kind of revisiting it so say we're from gelato dashboard you go down to stores you'll see Amazon store is right there we can click on ADD product we can add a single product first you can add multiple products later if you wanted to and let's say we want to have like a gild in 5,000 shirt and add you know some design on it I'm going to go to Men's Clothing right here we can say t-shirts and it should be one of the first ones uh it's a very common shirt many people sell it there we go the heavy heavyweight unisex gildin 5000 shirt so I'll select that one and this brings us into the gelato editor now you can edit your entire design right here very very easily actually but typically what I've been doing in the past is editing on say canva for example or photoshop or somewhere else and then bringing the design into here but starting off with the first kind of Step you have to choose what color or colors you want for this product so uh the white t-shirt looks good but maybe we want to have like a light gray uh maybe we want to have like a light blue as well and you can choose the sizes so maybe this is not including like four or five XL I don't know you could you you know it's up to you it's print on demand so you can adjust the pricing accordingly there's really no reason not to include those and we can choose DTG so it's going to be printing as a as opposed to embroidery but you totally could embroider it if you if you wanted to have that instead however embroidering is going to typically be a little more expensive you typically want like a smaller patch like on the corner the like kind of the chest pocket so I'm going to go with DTG so we can print on the entire t-shirt so we have that now we want to go down to layers or you can actually just go to files if you want to just upload your file here but kind of showing you the tools we have available we can add some text on here um we can add a new layer that is either an image that is text or something like that and you can kind of you know kind of put different things on the shirt as you as you want you also have shapes down here some shutter stock images if you want to add you know just like this mountain for some reason if you wanted to add that uh you just click on it it'll add it and you can click and drag things over to your shirt or just click on the plus and it'll put it in the middle of your shirt if you wanted to undo something again very easy to do this little undo button right there and like I said what I'm going to do is just upload a design that I made in canva in essence if you go to canva.com we can log in and on the top we can just click on t-shirt or we can type in t-shirt and we could say t-shirt design we're going to search for t-shirt design and there are a lot of kind of pre-made teasure designs at least the the kind of the shape is really helpful I find uh so maybe we can look at these and say maybe this one is going to be a good place to start and you can just say customize this template and then within canva a quick crash course on how this works is an easy dragon drop editor where on the left side we have all of our Design Elements if you wanted to drag shapes over or graphics you can also search for all types of things so you could say like a hamburger if you really wanted a hamburger in there you could search for that and just click and drag anything over to your design you can also resize things here you can change uh elements about it so when you click on that you can change you know like if it's cropped differently if it's transparent uh if you wanted to flip it or some things you can actually just change the color as well as well as the font and different things like that so like I said I already have a design over here uh and I'm just going to be using this one so once you have a design you can say share on the top and then you can say download and you can customize these settings you want to make sure the size is correct based on the shirt that you're or the product you're actually you know trying to put on gelato uh so you can customize the size right here and I want to select transparent so it's actually going to look good on all of the colors of shirts not just on the white shirt and then we can click on download now I already have this downloaded so let's go back to gelato and from here I'm going to go to files choose file and I'm going to upload this from my device uh this one's a little bit larger so you have the correct uh pixel density you want to make sure it has at least 150 DPI it it'll tell you if it's not it'll show you like a little warning symbol on the bottom but it looks like we're good with this and if you wanted to resize it you could do that so maybe I want to uh hold down so maybe I want it to be like that size right there and then once we like it we can say continue to mockups so now depending on the product you chose there may be a lot of mockups available with different people wearing them and things like that uh I'm going to go with uh you know these are all fine right now going to choose that as the primary image but you can see you know all the different angles of the same shirt right there and by the way if you wanted to change anything else about the design you can print in more places than just the front so on the bottom here you can see back in neck outer neck left sleeve right sleeve so if we wanted to say maybe on the left sleeve we wanted to add like U I don't know like a word right there we can add text we'll say uh a sample so we can just add that right there and now we can say continue to mock-ups and you'll see these different mockups kind of make sense showing different aspects of the shirt in case you were wondering like why would you show the sleeve on these mockups the reason is because you are able to print on the sleeve uh for you know different products like that so now let's say continue to details you could download them as well if you wanted to say share them on Instagram or any of your socials and uh I'm not going to do that for now I think it's fine just like this we're going to be listing it on Amazon we can choose the name of this so we'll call this Sunday play we can add a description down there and we can continue to prices and the prices as you see we have a lot of different options here because we have all the different sizes and all the different colors and you'll see the easiest way to do this is just to set what your margin's going to be uh on gelato and it'll adjust all the prices accordingly as you can see I think like the the larger sizes are typically a little bit more expensive the 3XL for example is about $2 more uh than the other ones so as far as the margin we'll just say 50% you could also have a dollar amount as well so you could also include the shipping cost in the profit calculation if you wanted to and let's just say our profit margin is going to be 40% we could say update and then we now have prices set for everything but you can go in and change prices individually if you wanted to make this maybe like uh 25 uh 25.95 2595 if that's what you really want to do you can set it up like that so we can then say continue to review and we can review all of these make sure everything looks good and we can publish now this is going to publish all of these these variants and everything over to Amazon automatically so I can say publish product and this may take a little while keep in mind this is going to be more than just like 30 seconds could be several minutes or even longer uh until this actually is published over to Amazon but once it is published if we go back to Amazon so this is our shipping settings let's get out of this on the top we click on Amazon Seller Central we should be able to go to the little hamburger icon go down to inventory and say manage all inventory and once it is actually published here so it's not yet let's close out of this once it's published here you will see your listings all shown right here we can customize them we can save you know different descriptions different images we can really change a lot of things about it right there so let's go back to gelato and I want to start working on another product where I can show you okay so it's in review right now it's going to take a couple minutes until that actually shows up let's go back to gelato and go to stores click on stores I'm going to add a product here we're going to add a single product and I want to show you some of the mockups that are available uh using gelato and this is where it really makes more sense to upgrade beyond the free version of gelato so for this let's look at maybe mugs and bottles let's go with the ceramic mug right here again let's just drop in our image right here our same design just plopping it into this one kind of resize it so it fills that space a little bit better so maybe so maybe we'll put it on both Sid of the mug like that now we can continue to mockups and you'll see some of them are just like way better now you can see what it actually looks like when it's sitting on a table and these are just like completely uh like I don't know I think very very convincing very realistic if you zoom into that you can see like yeah that looks that looks like the mug is actually sitting there very very convincing and you can download them if you wanted to uh once you upgrade to gelato Plus for free now I'll talk about the benefits of that in a second but let's say continue to details we have ceramic mug and because this is a different class than we had before with the t-shirts we would have to go back to Amazon and do the same thing uh with the gtin exemption like I showed you earlier this time choosing ceramic mug uh as our category or just any mug like that we'll say continue to prices uh we can choose um what our price is going to be so let's say add our margin continue to review and we could publish that one and that one should be in review and getting published soon as well now talking about some of the other things we have available specifically uh gelato plus and if it's really worth it so so if I go to the top right click on my my little icon there and go to subscriptions we have gelato plus gelato gold and personalization Studio three things you could upgrade to so kind of just highlighting why you might want to do any one of those if you start selling more you actually get discounts on products uh using gelato plus and gelato gold so here's a good exam so here's kind of a good illustration of the differences there so if you upgrade to gelato plus it's $25 per month and you get 20% off product so that doesn't make sense when you're selling like just one or two products a month maybe in the very very beginning but because this is a long game eventually you should expect to scale well beyond that to the point where 20% should be significantly more than $24 a month making this easily worth it now not all products are 20% off but you can check some products are 10% 15% some of them are 20% off off right there we also have the ability to have premium mockups and mockup Studio again kind of nice features that you're getting with gelato plus and gelato gold and gelato gold then adds some other cool things like 30% off branded labels and packaging inserts so if you have more than one product you're selling adding branded label inserts could be a great way to gain reviews on Amazon which can help you rank higher in Amazon and get more more sales it could also help you get some repeat sales maybe instead of going through Amazon again uh anybody who purchased the first thing can just like scan a QR code maybe they get a discount and go through your Shopify store maybe save you some fees and stuff like that and there are a couple other perks as well but the third option that you saw back there the personalization Studio that's not something I'm going to be setting up on Amazon right now but you could set it up on a Shopify store so going back to Amazon if I refresh the page you can see we have 18 variations of the product it's listed on Amazon we're ready to go we can manage all of these very easily so if we just click on any one of them click on the three dots we can edit the listing for that product and this is going to allow us to change like the title uh to change the description to change you know the the price and some different things like that all of that can be customized in here within the Amazon Seller Central pretty cool if you wanted to uh customize anything like that so clicking on the logo on the top left Amazon Seller Central that's pretty much a crash course on how to set up print on demand for Amazon I hope you found this video helpful and to be completely honest because you already have the product set up you went through that half of the effort it really makes a lot of sense in mind my opinion to also set up some other outlets as well some other Integrations with gelato so if we go back to gelato like I said the main one that I would recommend setting up if we go to stores is going to be Shopify but Hey Etsy is a great option as well um and if you want to sell on Tik Tok shop you can also do that so a lot of options on how to set this up I have videos on how to set up you know Tik Tok ads Tik Tok shop
